Domain Name Trouble

> I'm having problems getting emails, my customers are sending email to me and I'm not getting it; when I try to go to my website I'm getting my old web site; what's happening and how can I fix this?

This situation describes that your previous provider did not remove zone entry records for your domain on their domain name servers and you are using their domain name servers for name resolution or your customers are using their domain name servers.

To test this situation, see how your domain name is currently resolved on your existing connection.

  • On windows you can do this by opening dos prompt
    • Click on Start button
    • Click on Run
    • Type 'command'
    • Click ok
  • Type 'ping mail.yourdomainname.gTLD' and press enter

If your domain name is hosted at D & E Jazzd and you typed 'mail.yourdomainname.gTLD' the IP address returned should be 209.173.31.2. If you see anything else or get an error message, the name is not being resolved properly

The quick fix to fix your local machine is to change your domain name servers to D & E Jazzd

  • To see which domain servers you are using currently, within that dos prompt:
  • For Win 9X
    • Type 'winipcfg' and enter
    • Press more info
    • Look at DNS servers
      • For D & E Jazzd they should be 66.109.229.4 and 216.169.160.2

  • For NT/Win 2000
    • Type 'ipconfig /all' (If you cannot see the DNS server listed type 'ipconfig /batch c:\temp\winipcfg.txt /all' and press enter. Then go to and open the file c:\temp\winipcfg.txt with your favorite text editor)
    • Look at DNS servers
      • For D & E Jazzd they should be 66.109.229.4 and 216.169.160.2

To change domain name servers on your local machine

  • Right click on Network Neighborhood and select properties
  • For Win 9X
    • Select any TCP/IP protocol
    • Click on Properties
    • Select the DNS Configuration tab to the left
    • Make sure that Enable DNS is selected
    • Make sure that DNS Server Search Order has the DNS server for D & E Jazzd listed (66.109.229.4 and 216.169.160.2)
    • The host and Domain variable are required, but do not matter what is in them.
    • The 'Domain Suffix Search Order' is not needed, you may have dns1.dejazzd.com and dns2.dejazzd.com in the 'Domain Suffix Search Order'
  • For NT/Win 2000
    • Select Protocols

To see if your domain name is still being resolved by your previous provider:

  • Open a web browser to http://www.hexillion.com
  • Select Central Ops on the left
  • Select NsLookup on the left
  • Enter your domain name in the domain field
  • Click Go
  • Within the Answer records section it should return dns1.dejazzd.com and dns2.dejazzd.com for the entries after 'IN NS'
  • Now enter a different domain name server at the server field
    • For Earthlink\OneMain\Desupernet enter 204.249.184.2 this is host1.redrose.net
  • If the same answer records are not returned we have found a resolution error. To fix this error you will need to call your previous provider and request that 'yourdomainname.gTLD' is removed from their domain name servers
    • For Earthlink you can call 1-800-466-3624 and request that your domain name be removed fro ns3.onemain.com, hos1.redrose.net, and dns2.success.net
  • Please consult your previous bill statements for a contact phone number to call your previous provider. Or, go to http://www.allwhois.com/ and lookup your previous provider.
